Game Over

Last month, the school board voted on a new GPA program that allows students more freedom in picking their classes.
“The feeling was that this is a better GPA program,” said Counselor Neal Hall. “We would’ve added everyone into this new program, but stopped at sophomores because they haven’t started the AP program yet.”
This new program does not count electives when calculating GPA, and now AP and dual classes amount for the same points. Originally it was only going to affect the freshmen, but they added the sophomores at the last minute.
“It gives you more freedom to choose what electives you are actually interested in taking as opposed to choosing based on how many GPA points it is, ” Hall said.
The program allows students a greater freedom, so many students will be able to choose if AP or dual is better for them, rather than just worrying about the point system.
“Students are going to choose dual or AP for different reasons, not just GPA, and I think that both classes offer challenging course material and that students would be fine choosing either one,” said English teacher Sarah Durham.
Allowing students an equal choice of classes will help them plan for the future and makes smarter college choices that will help them in the long run.
“Allowing them to have a better opportunity to choose electives based on their interest instead of GPA will give them more choices after high school to do the things that they are interested in doing,” said Hall.
