District Introduces New Multipurpose Building
Construction starts for new addition
March 1, 2016
Many opportunities and extra curricula’s fill the halls for every student, but all these activities require space that isn’t always available. This fact leads to a bond election and the construction of a new multi-purpose building (MPB) that will be available for student use starting in August of 2016.
Breaking ground for the building is exciting for the district. This space provides opportunities for every student to achieve success in their activities.
“It is great to see all of the support for extra-curricular activities for the current and future students of DISD,” Director of Communication, Holly Fuller said.
For many students, the thought of a new MPB reminds them of the multipurpose building at the middle school.
This building will not act as a cafeteria or basketball court as the building at the middle school is known for, but as an open space for students and their extra-curricular activities.
“All students in band, soccer, baseball, softball, cross-country, track, powerlifting, football, cheerleading, drill team, basketball and volleyball will have the opportunity to utilize the new indoor facility,” Fuller said.
An indoor practice facility allows a place for outdoor activities displaced by weather conditions to practice. Marching Band students will get a good amount of use out of the building.
Freshman Madeline Smith experienced her first summer of color guard and the thought of getting a little break from that scorching sun is exciting.
“It will be nice having a place to practice during the summer without feeling like I might pass out from the heat during the summer,” Smith said. “Overall, I think it will be an awesome place for all of us.”
The 2016-2017 school year presents many opportunities, due to the hard work and support of the community for the approval of the new MPB. Next year the high school will not only be opening their doors, but also unveiling this new and exciting addition to the school. All of the elections, discussions, and dedication to this project are finally coming to light.
