Players, coaches and supporters all watched in awe as the ball landed on Needvillle’s inline sending all of the Eagle fans into complete shock. The Lady Eagles won the 4A UIL Volleyball State Championship in Garland on November 17.

After a rollercoaster ride of a season, the Lady Eagles volleyball team returned with smiles on their faces and medals around their necks. The team, mostly made up of young players, started off the season with a series of wins that instilled a sense of hope in the stands.

“It was unbelievable when we won. But it still hasn’t really sunk in yet that I’m a state champion,” senior Satasha Kostelecky said .

Kostelecky, a four year varsity letter, still struggles with wrapping her mind around the thought of being a state champion. Although her high school career comes to a close after this season, Kostelecky committed to play volleyball at Rice University in Houston next fall.

“I’m so excited to be a Rice Owl. I’m going to miss this team, but there are great things ahead for all the girls playing,” Kostelecky said.

The rest of the team hopes to return to the state tournament next fall. Some girls prepare to step up and help lead the team into another victorious season. ‘MVP’ sophomore Makenna Gantt reminisces about all of the good and bad that occured in the final game against Needville.

“The hardest part was losing the second set. But we pushed through and now we’re state champs.” Gantt said. “Next year we’re going in with a winning attitude and we’ll be there again”
