Okay, so my friend’s birthday is coming up. She’s not really a friend, actually. She’s a super friend. She’s one of my closest friends. She’s a dance-to-Beyonce-with-the-lights-off-don’t-care-if-your-moves-suck, sing-at-the-top-of-our-lungs-who-cares-if-it’s-off-key, Harry-Potter-joke-making, English-paper-editing, laugh-‘till-you-cry friend. Everyone’s got one, and yet she’s so incredibly unique. Whatever souls are made of, her soul and mine are the same.
But her birthday is this week and her party is this weekend. She’s turning 18. Normally, I don’t get people presents, and I don’t make exceptions. But she needs a present. She needs a present for every Beyonce sing-along, every Harry Potter reference, and every literature joke. She needs something.
But I don’t know what to do. How can I say thank you for everything she’s done for me; for every day she’s been tired but has still had time to joke and gossip; for every time I’ve been procrastinating, and she’s put her hands on my desk and said, “Stromberg! Focus!” ? How? I just don’t know. She’s just so fantastic, and everything I’ve thought of just isn’t good enough.
